Match Day is one of the most exciting days for those waiting to hear about their placement in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). News learned from this single day will determine a medical resident’s home for the next 4 years and, possibly, beyond.
In Gainesville, Match Day is celebrated around the city. Each year, our community makes an effort to welcome our new residents starting their 4-year program at University of Florida Medical Center and the University of Florida Health.
If you’re a new medical resident, welcome to Gator Nation and the city of Gainesville!
What is Match Day?
Match Day takes place each year on the third Friday of March. The NRMP places medical resident students from all around the country into medical residency training programs at eligible teaching hospitals, including Gainesville’s University of Florida College of Medicine. These placements will determine a resident’s home for the next 4 years.
