Think Pink: Thomas Group Realty Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

breast cancer awareness Gainesville

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sadly, breast cancer claims the lives of millions: It’s estimated that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives. In fact, American women are more likely to die from breast cancer than almost any other type; the only exception is lung cancer. And it’s not just exclusive to women: Men are also affected by this horrible disease.

Thanks to efforts by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and other research organizations, breast cancer rates have been dropping since the year 2000. These pioneering efforts are made possible by the generous donations of businesses, organizations, and individuals across the globe.

TGR and Breast Cancer Awareness

At Thomas Group Realty, we’re big supporters of our community. We believe in helping those who need it and offering support when and where we can. That’s why we donate to groups like ACS every year.

We know it’s not enough to wait until something like breast cancer affects us personally before taking action. That’s why we firmly believe in raising awareness and encouraging others to join the fight. When we work together, we have a chance to help others and find a cure. Whether you fundraise, educate others, or share your personal experiences, you are doing amazing things to defeat this awful disease.

One of our wonderful agents, Cynthia Grace, is one of the many women affected by breast cancer. Cynthia’s mother lost her battle with breast cancer at 51 and had 3 sisters who also fought the disease. Knowing she had a strong family history of cancer, Cynthia stayed vigilant and went to the doctor for checkups often.

In 2015, just five months after a clear mammogram, Cynthia was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer stage 3B. She immediately began chemotherapy and additional treatment. She continues to fight and raise awareness.

This is Cynthia’s second year participating in ACS’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Gainesville and she is currently the top fundraising participant for the event. Way to go, Cynthia!

For the last 2 years, our own Matt Thomas has also participated in the ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Gainesville and this year he was selected as one of the Real Men Wear Pink. Matt pledged to raise $2,500 and has already surpassed his goal!

The Gainesville team is still working hard to reach their combined goal of $35,000. We’d like to invite you to join us in the fight against breast cancer. Donate if you can or join Cynthia, Matt, and other pink-clad men and women in the fundraising walk on October 21.

Together, we’ll continue gracefully fighting for a cure.
